The Chinese version of Hanshin-Awaji Daishinsai Investigation (originally made up of 6 volumes; mainly compiled by Society of Earthquake Research, Kobe University) as a comprehensive result of seven years of research into the cause of and damage by the big Hanshin-Awaji earthquake as well as post-disaster reconstruction and disaster prevention has been published by the Peking University Press.
The commemoration for the publication of the book was held at the Beijing Center of Japanese Studies (inside Beijing Foreign Studies University) on December 22, 2009. Ikuko Seguchi, Deputy Director of Office for the Promotion of International Exchange, Kobe University, attended the ceremony as a representative for her Office , which had sponsored the work as a link to the contribution to the international community. In addition, Mr. Mamoru Sasaki, Dean of Graduate School of Humanities, Kobe University , responsible for coordination with Chinese counterparts, was also present.
The Chinese version of the book, compiled from the original 6 volumes in Japanese and published in one volume in Chinese, is priced at RMB37 yuan for retail in mainland China. It is expected that this translation and publication work will be helpful to the joint study by natural sciences and humanities on comprehensive disaster prevention and mitigation in China.
