2013年12月6日（金）に中山大学中山小礼堂（広東省広州市）において、NSFC-CAS-JSPS共同シンポジウム「International workshop on Frontier of Science and Technology 2013」を開催しました。
このシンポジウムは、JSPSのカウンターパートである国家自然科学基金委員会（NSFC）、中国科学院（CAS）と共同で開催し、これまでの日中共同研究の成果を発表するとともに、特に若手研究者に対し、最新の研究分野を紹介することで、日中の学術交流の促進を図ることを目的に開催したものです。日本と中国から、JSPSの「二国間交流事業」などで日中共同研究を継続的に行っている12名の研究者が発表を行いました。
シンポジウムでは、初めに張英蘭NSFC国際合作局研究員（国際合作局亜非処前処長）、房強CAS国際合作局亜非処処長、加藤久JSPS国際事業部長がそれぞれ挨拶を述べられました。
シンポジウムでは、「Novel Approaches to Difficult Diseases」、「New Horizon of Biomedical Researches」、「Physical Link of Planets, Waves and Materials」、「Exploration of Electromagnetic World」の4つのセッションごとに講演が行われました。また、当日はポスターセッションも行い、会場となった中山大学所属の大学院生など若手研究者から25のポスター展示がありました。ポスターは講演を行った研究者が採点し、優れたポスター展示を行った若手研究者7名を「Best Paper Award」として表彰しました。
シンポジウムの最後には和田センター長が、「今後もNSFC、CASとJSPSとの共同シンポジウムを継続して実施し、日中共同研究の成果の還元や、今後の科学技術の発展を担う若手研究者の支援を行っていきたい。」とあいさつを述べました。
